1 John 5:13–15 (NLT) — 13 I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life. 14 And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. 15 And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.
Confident to see Him - 1 John 2:28 (NLT) — 28 And now, dear children, remain in fellowship with Christ so that when he returns, you will be full of courage and not shrink back from him in shame.
Confident to approach Him - 1 John 3:21 (NLT) — 21 Dear friends, if we don’t feel guilty, we can come to God with bold confidence.
Confident in judgement - 1 John 4:17 (NLT) — 17 And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world. Confident in prayer - 1 John 5:14 (NLT) — 14 And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him.
Why are we so confident?
1. Our IDENTITY is the children of God.
- 1 John 3:1–2 (NLT) — 1 See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. 2 Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is.
- God wants us to have the confidence of being his kids.
- Your identity to God?
- I am his creation.
- I am his servant.
- I am his child.
2. Our VALUE is the cross of Christ.
- 1 John 4:9–10 (NLT) — 9 God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. 10 This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
- Culture gets it wrong so much:
- Love is a feeling.
- Love is conditional.
- Love is primarily romantic.
- Love is self serving.
- Love is proportional.
- Love is safe.
- Love is earned over time.
- God defining what love is - HE is love
- Love is action.
- Love is giving.
- Love is self-initiating.
- Love is sacrifice.
- Love has a shape ✝️
- John 15:13 (NLT) — 13 There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
3. Our LOVE is being perfected.
- 1 John 4:16–18 (NLT) — 16 We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. 17 And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world. 18 Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.
- His love is working in me.
- Paul said being rooted and grounded in love
- Ephesians 3:17 (NLT) — 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.
- The action here is receiving that Love.
- Love is casting out fear.
- His love is flowing through me.
- 1 John 4:7-8 (NLT) — 7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
- His love working in us will also work through us.
- Here’s the truth about God’s love - It is the actual proof that God has made his home in you. If you have not stepped into love, or are not walking in love, you are displaying proof that God is not having his way in your life.
