Dedicated Part 4

Dedicate a Place

Jonathan Stockstill

October 11, 2015

Dedicating a place to God means transitioning from God visiting to inhabiting our lives. When we dedicate the best place, new blessings come into our lives where we can experience the rest, fellowship, sustenance, and inspiration of God. Pastor Jonathan ended our Dedicated series by sharing how we can dedicate a place to God and the incredible blessings that come through God inhabiting our lives.

2 Kings 4:8–10 NLT: “8 One day Elisha went to the town of Shunem. A wealthy woman lived there, and she urged him to come to her home for a meal. After that, whenever he passed that way, he would stop there for something to eat. 9 She said to her husband, ‘I am sure this man who stops in from time to time is a holy man of God. 10 Let’s build a small room for him on the roof and furnish it with a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp. Then he will have a place to stay whenever he comes by.’”

2 Samuel 6:10–11 NLT: “10 So David decided not to move the Ark of the Lord into the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-edom of Gath. 11 The Ark of the Lord remained there in Obed-edom’s house for three months, and the Lord blessed Obed-edom and his entire household.”

1. Decide that you want to move from visitation to habitation.

  • John 14:23 NLT: “23 Jesus replied, ‘All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.’”
  • Ephesians 3:17 NLT: “17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.”

2. Dedicate the best place.

  • Psalm 132:2–5 NLT: “2 He made a solemn promise to the Lord. He vowed to the Mighty One of Israel, 3 ‘I will not go home; I will not let myself rest. 4 I will not let my eyes sleep nor close my eyelids in slumber 5 until I find a place to build a house for the Lord, a sanctuary for the Mighty One of Israel.’”

3. Experience the blessing of God’s habitation.

a. The bed: the rest of God

  • Hebrews 4:9–11 NLT: “9 So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. 10 For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. 11 So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall.”
  • Matthew 11:28–29 NLT: “28 Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

b. The chair: the fellowship of God

  • Revelation 3:20 NLT: “20 Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.”

c. The table: the sustenance of God

  • John 4:14 NLT: “14 But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”

d. The lamp: the inspiration of God

Worship is not what you think. It’s more than just singing your favorite song during a weekend church service. Worship is something special where God’s presence is found, and it’s not limited to the four walls of a church building. True worship is about dedication, obedience, and presenting our lives as an offering for Christ. Through “Dedicated,” we will look at new ways to worship that will bring us into a deeper understanding of being living sacrifices for Jesus.
