LESSON

Key Scriptures: John 1:1; Matthew 4:4

The Big Idea:

Bethany Church was founded and built on the Word of God.

Main Points

  1. The Word of God Is Proven.

    • Historically accurate
    • Archaeologically proven
    • Scientifically accurate
    • Geographically accurate
    • Prophetically perfect
  2. The Word of God Is Powerful.

    • Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
    • God’s Word has the power to:
      • Transform
      • Heal
      • Bring faith
      • Defend (fight the enemy)
      • Reproduce
      • Revive
    • How do you access that power?
      • Read it
      • Study it
      • Apply it - Don’t just be a hearer of the Word, be a doer of the Word.
    • Whatever is in you at the time of crisis will come out of you.
  3. The Word of God Is Practical.

    • The Word of God is relevant to your everyday life.
    • Sometimes we feel like the Word doesn’t apply to our lives. Here are some Scriptures that apply directly to you living a better life:
      • Ephesians 4:29 - “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only that which is helpful for building up others according to their needs that it may benefit all who listen.”
      • James 1:19-20 - “Let everyone be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger, for the anger of the people does not achieve the righteousness of God.”
      • Matthew 5:37 - “Simply let your ‘yes’ be ‘yes’ and your ‘no’, ‘no’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.” (Be a person of your word).
    • If we took the Word and made it practical in our lives, we would see different results.
  4. The Word of God Is Provoking.

    • You can’t sit under good teaching and not be stirred up to do something for God.
    • The goal of the teaching of the Word of God is so you can be equipped to go out and do the work of the Gospel.
    • 2 Timothy 3:16-17 - “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.”
