Stay In The Know: Church-wide outreach is happening on December 18!

LESSON

Key Scriptures: Luke 2:36-38 (NLT)

The Big Idea:

Advent means coming. As believers, we get to live in the Hope of the world!

Main Points:

  1. We Have the PROPHECIES

    • 2 Peter 1:19-21 (NLT)
    • Jesus fulfilled 55 overtly obvious prophecies, plus over 300 that some scholars believe pointed to Him.
    • The prophets and prophecies that predicted He would come are the same that predict His second coming.
  2. We Have the PROMISES

    • 2 Peter 1:4, Ezekiel 36:25-27 (NLT)
    • There are over 7,000 promises in the Bible.
    • When you have a promise from a trustworthy source, it produces hope!
  3. We Have the PRESENCE

    • Ephesians 1:14 (NLT)
    • God’s very presence within us gives us the hope of all He has promised us!
  4. We Have the PAST

    • 2 Corinthians 1:10 (NLT)
    • Take into account God’s faithfulness.
    • We are so quick to forget!
  5. We Have the PEOPLE

    • 1 Corinthians 15:19–20 (NLT)
    • We can look at what the Lord has done for each other and be filled with hope.
    • We can encourage each other in our hope. When you forget, I remember!
  6. We Have the PERSON

    • 1 Peter 1:3 (NIV)
    • Natural hope is based on things lining up and looking right, but our hope is not based on circumstances.
    • It really doesn’t matter what is happening in the world; our hope is in Jesus!

Discussion Questions:

Have you ever been through a trial and felt the Presence of God?

When was a time you have been encouraged by what the Lord did in someone’s life?

Challenge: Over the next few weeks, we have the opportunity to see this season through new eyes. Advent is a season to see your hope renewed. Ask the Lord to reveal the areas in your life you have lost hope. John 14:14 says if we ask anything in Jesus’ Name, He will do it. I believe that in this season the Lord is going to renew your hope and make all things new! As we get ready to go into a new year, let your faith be strengthened. Step out and believe the promises of God are for you!

Lesson: How to Move a Mountain

Stay In The Know: Leader’s Night Christmas party on December 1!

LESSON

Key Scriptures: Let us HOLD FAST the confession of our hope WITHOUT WAVERING, for he who promised is faithful.” –Heb. 10:23 (ESV)

The Big Idea:

We must hear, speak, hold fast to, and apply the word of God to our lives to have a faith that can move mountains.

Main Points:

  1. Hear the Word

    • “Faith comes from hearing and hearing through the Word of Christ.” –Rom. 10:17
    • The Holy Spirit wrote the words in the Bible. He knows the exact Scripture that He can move from your mind to your heart.
    • Until you hear that word, there is no faith.
  2. Speak the Word

    • Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if YOU HAVE FAITH like a grain of mustard seed, YOU WILL SAY to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” –Mt. 17:19-20
    • Jesus spoke to trees and they died, storms and they stopped, dead people and they lived.
    • Your words are your declaration; you either agree with God or the enemy.
      • David spoke to Goliath and then did the impossible. (1 Sam. 17)
      • Joshua spoke to the sun and then did the impossible. (Joshua 10)
  3. Hold Fast to the Word

    • “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” –Heb. 10:23
    • What if you believe in your heart and declare with your mouth, but nothing seems to change? You continue to hold fast to your profession.
    • The more your ears hear it, the more your faith grows. You become persuaded and convinced of the promise of God. Your mouth remains in agreement with God’s promise.
      • Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. For, “Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.” –Heb. 10:35-38
  4. Application

    • Get a Word.
    • Speak the Word.
      • Debt: Be removed.
      • Depression: Be gone.
      • Division: Be removed.
      • Disease: Be healed.

Discussion Questions:

Do you have a Scripture to which you are currently holding fast?

How can you apply that Scripture to your life?

Challenge:

Find a Scripture you can declare over a mountain in your life!
